REIGA Consumer Information
Every time a REIGA member company installs renewable energy products, they should give the customer a 10 year guarantee, subject to terms and conditions. They also pay a small levy to REIGA for each installation they carry out.
This levy pays the cost of operating the guarantee agency, for it to carry out checks on its members' work and to contribute to a reserve fund.
If after dealing with the installer a problem is reported to REIGA by a customer, REIGA will approach the installer to establish the details.
This may in itself resolve the problem, however if it does not REIGA will appoint a surveyor to report on the problem and based on that report, REIGA will take the necessary remedial action. This may include appointing another installer to do the work
What is REIGA?
When environmentally responsible householders - just like you - invest in renewable energy products, such as solar panels or a home wind turbine, make sure they are installed and maintained by a company which will give you a guarantee.
The leading companies in the renewable energy products industry have come together to form a not-for-profit organisation to set, monitor and maintain high standards for the suppliers and installers who belong to it.
It is called REIGA, which stands for the Renewable Energy Installation Guarantee Agency, and its purpose, in addition to vetting companies which want to become members, is to give you a 10 year guarantee on the installation and maintenance of renewable energy products. It won’t cost you as the customer a penny, and is in addition to any guarantee the supplier or installer may offer you.
What should you do if you have a problem?
If you have a problem to resolve, start by contacting the company which originally installed the renewable energy equipment. If you don't get satisfaction from that REIGA member, contact us on 0845 390 2390 with the details.
We will then liaise with you and the installer to resolve the problem. Should the original installer no longer be in business for any reason, we will have the problem investigated and where appropriate, have any necessary repairs done at our expense.
The Guarantee
The guarantee lasts for 10 years and is for a maximum claim of £10,000 for domestic installations. Commercial installations will be subject to separate claim amounts. You will receive a guarantee certificate by post shortly after the installation is completed. You should keep this safely in case of the unlikely event of you needing to contact us. By deciding to use a renewable energy device guaranteed by REIGA you are helping to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and the resultant damage to our EARTH. REIGA will provide the comfort of knowing that the excellent product is backed by a first class installation guarantee.
Terms & Conditions
1. A REIGA registered installer must have installed the Equipment.
2. All repairs to the Equipment at any time shall be carried out by an engineer approved by the manufacturer or registered with REIGA .
3. Subject to condition 2 above the Equipment shall not have been tampered with after the installation Date.
4. The structure to which the Equipment is attached, shall not after the Installation Date have been subject to any internal or external alteration, disturbance, misuse, abuse or neglect or, have any other equipment attached to it or be exposed to any additional pressures, loads or influences, which may in the professional opinion of an independent surveyor, structural engineer or other suitably qualified person appointed by REIGA affect the fixture of or performance of the Equipment attached to it.
5. The structure to which the Equipment is attached shall be structurally sound at the time of installation.
6. For the avoidance of doubt this guarantee shall relate only to defects in workmanship relating to the installation of the Equipment and shall not relate in any way to defects
in Equipment.
7. This guarantee relates to the Equipment and will not be affected by a change in owner or occupant of the property to which the Equipment is attached.
8. Prior to requesting REIGA to become involved in rectifying any defect covered by this guarantee the installer must be notified in writing of such defect and allowed a reasonable opportunity and access to remedy such defect.
9. If the defect has not been rectified within 45 days of receipt of such notification REIGA should be contacted by post at 66 Victoria Road, Burgess Hill, West Sussex, RH15 9LH or such other address as notified by REIGA, REIGA undertakes to respond to your letter within 14 days of its receipt. REIGA will then investigate the reported defect and may arrange for the Equipment and structure to be surveyed by an independent surveyor, structural engineer or other suitably qualified person. Such surveyor, structural engineer or other suitably qualified person shall be allowed reasonable access to the property to which the Equipment is attached.
10. Any claim under this guarantee shall be notified in writing to REIGA within 10 years and 60 days of the Installation Date.
11. If such surveyor, structural engineer or other suitably qualified person is of the opinion that there has been a defect in the workmanship relating to the Installation of the Equipment, then, subject to condition 12 below, REIGA shall rectify such defect unless any of these terms and conditions have not been complied with.
12. The cost to REIGA of any rectification work (including any cost of repairing or replacing the Equipment) carried out under this guarantee shall not exceed £10,000 including VAT and REIGA’s liability under this guarantee is accordingly limited to £10,000.
13. This guarantee will not cover any costs of rectification work normally covered under a buildings or property insurance or costs of any rectification work arising from acts of terrorism or vandalism.
14. For the avoidance of doubt under the terms of this guarantee REIGA shall not be liable for any damage to property (other than damage to the Equipment caused by any defect in the workmanship relating to its installation), personal injury, death or claims for loss of anticipated savings unless such liability arises as a result of the negligence of REIGA.
15. The terms and conditions of this guarantee do not affect your statutory rights.
